 Altar Servers

Boys and girls of the parish who are in the fifth grade through high school are invited to serve at the altar with the priests for all Masses, weddings and funerals. Their duties include but are not limited to:

  • accompanying the priest, the deacon and other liturgical ministers in the processions; assisting the priest by holding the Sacramentary when he reads the opening and closing prayers;
  • assisting in the setting up of the altar;
  • assisting the priest as he receives the gifts from the congregation and presenting them to the priest at the altar;
  • providing the priest with holy water or incense any time they are to be used in the liturgy.

Any young person in the parish who is in the fifth through twelfth grade may apply to become an altar server by contacting Fr. Reji Joseph. Training sessions take place soon. Parish Altar Servers attend both the parish school and the local public schools. They will be asked to sign a contract which requires them to take responsibility in fulfilling certain altar server duties and to live a Christian lifestyle which would be expected of anyone serving on the altar of God.

Lectors are men and women who are registered in the parish, practicing Catholics who exemplify the Catholic Faith in their daily lives, and read and reflect on the Scriptures often. They proclaim the Word of God at weekday and Sunday liturgies after preparing the readings during the week by studing and rehearsing them.
